Position description

The Scott County Historical Society (SCHS) in Shakopee, MN is seeking interns for summer 2017. This internship position runs for approximately 3 months (June – August); SCHS requires that interns commit to at least 10 hours per week.

The Youth Programs intern will be responsible for the following:

-Teaching a series of pioneer mini-camps and craft workshops to children at various Scott County Library branches.

-Preparing program materials and spaces, and distributing surveys to program participants.

-Intern may also assist in other areas of museum work, including other public programs, marketing, and visitor services.

Qualifications or requirements

-Must be a college undergraduate. Education majors strongly preferred.

-Must have experience working with children.

-Must have some background or demonstrated interest in history or museum work.

-Must be enthusiastic, creative, and able to work well with children (this includes the ability to adapt teaching style to various developmental levels, and the ability to effectively manage large groups of children).

-Must have strong written and oral communication skills.

-Must have own transportation and be able to intern during designated program times.
