Join us for an inside look at the joys and challenges of building a business with your life partner while balancing creativity and collaboration. Marc Heu and Gaosong V. Heu, the owners of Marc Heu Patisserie Paris located in St. Paul, MN, will share their experiences of running a successful creative business together. Marc brings his passion for French pastry, while Gaosong draws her expertise in branding, marketing, and business strategy. The conversation will be moderated by Anitra Budd, Artist Career Consultant and Instructor at Springboard for the Arts.

Gaosong V. Heu (she/her) is a Hmong American performance artist, musician, vocalist, published writer, educator, arts administrator and entrepreneur based in Saint Paul, MN. Gaosong has over 15 years of training in Western Classical music, as well as training in traditional styles of Hmong folk music. As a lover of all art and advocate for diversity, access and inclusion within the cultural sector, Gaosong received her B.A. in Theater Arts from the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities and her Masters of Arts in Arts Administration from Columbia University, class of 2020. Gaosong is the recipient of MN State Arts Board 2025 “Cultural Expression Grant,” where she will be continuing her studies in traditional Hmong flower singing with her mother Pang Her Vang. She also starred in the world premiere of “The Latehomecomer,” a one-woman show based on the winning novel of beloved Hmong author, Kao Kalia Yang. This show is being produced by the theater company, Literature to Life based in New York City. “The Late Homecomer” premiered in the Spring of 2021 in New York City and features a national tour across the U.S. When Gaosong is not performing or working as a consultant, she is the Co-Owner and Chief Operating Officer of Marc Heu Patisserie Paris, St. Paul’s premier destination for French desserts and pastries. https://www.gaosongvheu.com/

Dubbed the “King of Croissants” in 2019 by Growler Magazine, Chef Marc Heu (he/him) is a French-Hmong pastry Chef born and raised in France. As co-owner, CEO and Executive Pastry Chef of Marc Heu Pâtisserie Paris, Marc was selected as a semi-finalist for the prestigious James Beard Award for “Outstanding Pastry Chef/Baker” in 2024. His patisserie has been nominated for local area awards including “Outstanding Pastry Chef” (Charlie Award) and “Best Patisserie” (Growler Magazine), and “Best Bakery in MN” by 24/7 Wall Street. His work and story have been featured in publications including but not limited to Pastry Arts Magazine, Kare 11 News, Pioneer Press, Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Magazine and Discovery Plus. Anitra Budd (she/her) is an experienced freelance editor, copywriter, consultant, and public speaker whose clients include Fortune 500 corporations, literary publishers, marketing agencies, universities, and local and national magazines. Over the course of her career, she’s presented workshops on publishing, editing, and organization for artists at a variety of venues. She holds BA and MA degrees from the University of Minnesota.
