Job description

The Development Director plays a highly visible role in developing and leading STC strategies focused on increasing contributed income and strengthening our philanthropic base. This position is an integral member of the leadership team and plays a key role in achieving the goals and objectives of the organization. The Development Director must possess the experience, skills and diplomacy necessary to think strategically, identify new funding opportunities, and foster relationships and partnerships that move STC forward in achieving its mission. The Development Director possesses a broad array of skills and abilities which include grant writing, event planning and management, as well as a thorough knowledge of best practices in fundraising.

• Provide strategic direction for all fundraising activities
• Determine and deliver annual contributed income goals
• Identify, solicit and cultivate individual donors and major gifts
• Lead efforts to obtain general operating and program support from foundations, businesses and grants, which includes identifying new funding opportunities
• Identify opportunities and secure sponsorships for productions and events
• Collaborate with the Board and other staff to develop tools to maximize fundraising success
• Convene and lead the work of the Board’s Fundraising Committee
• Oversee the planning of special events to promote STC and engage supporters to invest in our success
• Coordinate donor communication, including acknowledgement letters, invitations, and playbill updates
• Track contributed income activity and maintain donor database
• Evaluate and analyze the success of fundraising efforts

Qualifications or requirements

• Passionate about our mission, vision and values, with a strong desire to be an active advocate for STC in the community
• Excellent communication and relationship building skills
• Bachelor’s degree with at least five years of experience in nonprofit development, including grant writing and event planning
• Continuous improvement mindset: values new ideas and opportunities to improve
• Competent with Microsoft office
• Ability to work with complex databases; experience with Tessitura software strongly preferred
• Excellent organizational skills and demonstrated ability to set priorities and manage multiple tasks
• Ability to work a flexible schedule
