Seeking a self-directed artist administrator, who has a passion for the theatre arts and working with community youth.

This full-time position serves as the primary administrative and artistic leader for Pillsbury House Theatre’s Chicago Avenue Project, a youth mentoring theatre program. This would include expanding, developing, directing, marketing and producing the Chicago Avenue Project, creating new education programming to support CAP and the mission of PUC, securing the necessary human and financial resources to support CAP and other PHT activities, including: recruiting and training 100 volunteers per year, developing partnerships and collaborations internally and externally, and serving as a Pillsbury House Theatre resident core company. To perform this job successfully, you must be able to carry out each essential duty satisfactorily.

Major Position Responsibilities and Regular Activities.
1. Produce and direct all aspects of the Chicago Avenue Project:
• Recruit, hire, and terminate all Chicago Avenue Project production support staff; in conjunction
with center director when necessary.
• Effectively supervise and train all CAP program staff.
• Conduct performance reviews and provide coaching, as needed, for all CAP program staff.
• Facilitate the professional development of CAP program staff.
• Conduct routine CAP staff meetings to facilitate team development and service efficiency.
• Hire, train and supervise CAP temporary personnel (stage mangers, designers, teaching staff, etc…)
• Develop and manage CAP annual budget
• Supervise the direction of all aspects of the CAP program including:
-Development of CAP curriculum
-Recruitment and training of 100+ volunteer theatre professionals annually
-Organization and facilitation of off-site retreats with youth and professional volunteers.
-Internal and external promotion of CAP
-Developing grant proposals and securing donated goods and services to support the project.
-CAP production management including; set, lights, sound, props, costumes, multimedia
elements, etc…
• Direct the creation and dissemination of all publicity and marketing materials including; press
releases, posters, flyers, programs, ads, etc.
• Evaluate and document the program – provide material for reports and maintain records for
compliance purposes.

2. Serve as a Pillsbury House Theatre Company Member:
• Participate in Breaking Ice and Chicago Avenue Project (CAP) productions as needed.
• Work on mainstage plays, CAP plays, Late Nite performances and Breaking Ice sequences in
rotation with the other company members.
• Write for Breaking Ice, CAP and the mainstage as needed.
• Provide support activities for the mainstage and education programs including facilitation, design,
front of house, box office, etc.
• Attend all Pillsbury House Theatre as well as Pillsbury House + Theatre meetings

3. Budget Administration:
• Manage program budgets, authorizing expenses and ensuring that financial tracking and control
systems are in place and followed.
• Monitor program income and expenses to ensure a balanced budget.
• Provide leadership with Agency’s fundraising efforts.
• Administer CAP related grants and/or contracts, i.e. grant-writing to implementation to reporting,
fulfilling requirements set by the funder and agency.
• Assist Director with pursuing new funding sources.
• Provide required reports to executive staff and funders, and ensure their timely submission.

4. Program Coordination and Operation:
• Help strategize and develop new strategy for execution of the Chicago Avenue Project.
• Develop and manage partnerships with external organizations.
• Provide direct programming, such as teaching classes and/or coordinating services, as needed.
• Oversee intake and eligibility component of all programming.
• Perform program evaluations and timely reporting, ensuring that programs have annual work
plans with measurable outcomes and that an effective program evaluation framework exists.
• Develop and maintain formal policies and procedures for providing program services.
• Assume responsibility for program compliance with funding contracts and obligations.
• Monitor changes in policies and regulations for all funding sources and communicate updates to
Director and management team.
• Lead the transformation of existing program and creation of new programming to address
emerging capabilities and needs.
• Maintain contact with program participants and families, ensuring needs are met.
• Attend agency meetings on-site and at other locations, as well as community meetings and
gatherings relevant to programming.
• Attend and contribute to all youth focus area team meetings.
• Make appropriate referrals to youth and families.
• Assure environment is maintained, clean and safe.
• Transport participants if necessary.

5. Secure Pillsbury House Theatre’s position as an exemplary, professional community based arts institution that brings professional artists together with community residents to share in vital, socially relevant arts experiences.
• Initiate and develop new education programming to support the purpose of PHT and the mission
of PUC.
• Work in collaboration with the Co-Artistic Managing and Co-Artistic Producing Directors to
develop vision and strategic plans for the theatre that unify the mainstage and education
• Initiate and develop relationships with Agency leadership, key influencers, other arts education
organizations and external stakeholders to increase the visibility of PHT and PUC and to identify
opportunities for collaboration.

6. Contribute to a positive working climate at the program, center and agency level.

• Attend program, center and all agency staff meetings and contribute solutions to operations;
expect the same from supervisees, supervisors and co-workers.
• Be available to serve on various agency task forces if/when requested
• Responsible for recruiting, working with and supervising volunteers and/or projects
• Coordinate activities & services with other center-based programs
• Complete tasks necessary for the agency to fulfill its commitments and mission

Qualifications or requirements

Position Requirements:

1. Minimum Education and Experience
• Bachelor’s Degree in Theatre or in another relevant field preferred, or equivalent combination of
education and work experience
• Two years of supervisory work experience.
• Work experience in programs’ main focus areas.
