Job description

We’re looking for a skilled Information Designer to join our team on a 3-month contract (with potential to turn into a permanent role). The ideal candidate has excellent graphic design skills for content-focused design, has experience with infographics, data visualization, illustration, and project management, and is passionate about social and environmental sustainability.

You will contribute to information and graphic design projects.
You will project-manage your own creative projects.
This role is flexible and highly independent: you are self-directed and accountable to the varying demands of projects.
This role is a 3-month contract (20-32 hours/wk; retainer-based), with the possibility to grow and become full time. (We’re looking for people who are interested to grow into a more full-time role.) Flexible working hours. This is a junior to mid-level role. Compensation depends on qualifications and is based on Minneapolis standards.

You’re organized and comfortable working with clients. You’re excellent at time-management, multi-tasking, and you have the ability to prioritize. You have experience working directly with clients, and interest in working with teams on client-facing projects. You will project-manage your own projects and keep to a timeline. You will manage client expectations and keep clients updated on project progress. In this role, you will:

+ Set and meet deadlines.
+ Keep clients happy.
+ Juggle multiple projects at once – often with multidisciplinary teams.
+ Diligently track your time.

You are a self-starter and strategic thinker. You have the ability to translate that strategy into action steps to get things done. You thrive working independently and you manage your own workflow.

You are a collaborative team player. You approach your work along the lines of ‘everything is figure-out-able’. You have an experimental mindset and constantly seek to iterate, test and try things. You know your strengths, and your own limits: you can identify when it’s time to step aside and seek the expertise of others. You are comfortable sharing your design files with other designers to take a project to the next step.

You are an excellent communicator. This goes for written and spoken communication, as well as visuals.

You are passionate about sustainability. You are knowledgeable and up-to-date on social and environmental sustainability, and the science that supports it.

You are comfortable with ambiguity and the ever-evolving nature of a small, growing business. You enjoy learning new things.

You embrace technology. We’re a remote-work environment.

+ Adobe Illustrator, Adobe InDesign, Adobe Photoshop
+ Your favorite tools for working with data (examples: Excel, Google Sheets, and online tools)

+ Experience working with data: translating raw data into the right type of graph in varying scenarios
+ Experience working with digital and online media; especially as it relates to the latest technologies for infographics and updatable data visualization.
+ An understanding of principles of behavior change strategy.
+ Experience with animation or web design.
