Organizational Summary:
Located on a stunning urban oasis in Eagan, Minnesota, Caponi Art Park (CAP) is a distinctive nonprofit community space. CAP offers cultural and educational experiences in an inviting, natural setting. Our mission is to restore and nurture the human spirit through art, nature and community. Our tours and workshops use nature as a tool to teach art and art history to all ages. It is our goal for students to gain a new appreciation for art and nature as well as a better understanding of art terms and techniques.

Internship Summary:
This 3-5 month internship is ideal for an individual aspiring to teach art, gain experience in nonprofits and for those who have a strong connection to nature. Interns will work throughout CAP’s living sculpture, conducting guided tours for visitors from age 6 to 96. Interns will work directly with Caponi Art Park staff to develop skills in using art and nature as a way to communicate and discover. As part of this internship, interns will also conduct outdoor nature-based art workshops in conjunction with some tours. The goal of CAP’s tour program is to have visitors walk away with a new appreciation for art and nature.

Conduct tours and adapt them to meet the specific needs of each tour group
Instruct hands-on nature-based art workshops
Monitor and maintain workshop supply inventory as needed
Evaluate and adapt art workshops as needed

Details: Start date: June 2019 (Training will begin in May)
Duration: June – September
Hours: Varies month by month depending on tours scheduled, 8-10 hrs/week
Type: Paid Internship, $10/hr.

Qualifications or requirements

Bachelor’s degree (completed or in progress) in art, education or other related fields
Teaching experience is a plus
Education in environmental studies is a plus
Must be comfortable with all age groups, especially children age 3 – 12
Must have great public speaking skills
Dependability and timeliness is a must!
Must be able to manage and direct large groups of all ages, up to 25 for an individual tour
