Job description

First Avenue, the Twin Cities’ most prolific live music and events promoter, is looking for an Operations Manager. This position reports directly to the Director of Event Operations, and is responsible for overseeing event operations within the First Avenue family of venues, including the First Avenue Mainroom, 7th St. Entry, Turf Club, Fine Line, Palace Theatre, Fitzgerald Theater, and our shows at outside venues.

This is a full-time, exempt position, with a rotating weekly schedule depending on venue needs. The Operations Manager must be able to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays, in addition to normal business hours, as needed.


• Ensure the venue is adequately prepared for nightly business
• Supervise event staff to ensure their duties are performed in accordance with Company rules
• Ensure that the event staff does everything in their power to prevent liability, and properly address and/or report any security situations
• Communicate any changes in policy, or deviations from standard operating procedure
• Immediately address any issues that arise with the facility, the patrons, or the employees, to ensure that the evening’s operations are as seamless as possible
• Periodically serve in the capacity of the Promoter Rep in settling smaller, local shows
• Perform basic accounting functions related to operating an event space
• Oversee closing and securing of the venue of focus at the end of the event
• Communicate issues that arise throughout the evening to the appropriate departments
• Other duties as needed

Qualifications or requirements

• Minimum one year experience in hospitality management preferred
• Experience in events management preferred
• Experience in training staff preferred
• Experience with the Aloha Point of Sale system preferred
• Ability to work irregular schedule, including working nights, weekends and holidays as required by venue schedules
• Strong leadership and communication skills
• Ability to effectively supervise a diverse staff in a business entertainment venue
• Ability to effectively manage, deescalate, and mitigate security issues
• Strong conflict management skills
• Basic math skills, and good attention to detail
• Ability to multitask, and effectively prioritize, in a busy environment
• Ability to work in crowded, loud, and dark environments
• Ability to effectively and rapidly navigate through crowds, including up and down stairs
• Ability to lift 50 pounds
• COVID-19 vaccination required, unless a reasonable accommodation is needed for a medical reason or religious practice/belief
• Position does require local travel between Minneapolis and Saint Paul
