Job description

The Minnesota Orchestra is the largest performing arts organization in the state and one of America’s top symphonic ensembles. The Stage Door Attendant will ensure the safety and security of the Orchestra Hall facility by ensuring stage door is always monitored, assisting guests, monitoring security and emergency systems, and responding appropriately. The Attendant will facilitate a positive audience experience through box office assistance and assistance with department related projects.

Major Job Functions:

Monitor Security and Emergency Systems for Orchestra Hall Facility:
Ensure the stage door is always monitored during assigned shifts.
Monitor stage door and loading dock area by checking in guests entering the building and backstage areas, notifying MOA employees as required, and distributing appropriate guest passes.
Understand and monitor building security and emergency systems (including but not limited to the fire alarm system, camera system, emergency generator, access card system, and weather radio), immediately reporting any discrepancies and responding according to defined procedures.
Oversee the storage, logging, and distribution of building keys to approved employees and guests.

Customer Service, Reception of Calls and Guests, Ticketing Sales Assistance:
1. Create a welcoming environment for guests, vendors, clients, employees and volunteers, via both phone and in-person interactions.
Provide support by answering phones, taking and distributing messages and by assisting all callers promptly, efficiently and politely.
Greet and assist arriving guest artists, following established procedures.
Assist in accepting deliveries and notifying appropriate department or person.
Maintain a current log of lost and found, and secure items that are received.
Coordinate the schedule for the use of the Association vehicle.
Create a welcoming environment for guests, vendors, clients, employees and volunteers.
Treat patrons as individuals with warmth and respect, while providing friendly, courteous and responsible service in an efficient manner.
Recognize and acknowledge customer compliments, comments and concerns, collect sufficient information to determine the issue, take appropriate action and communicate to the appropriate person

2. Maintain and utilize complete and current information concerning Orchestra Hall products, services, policies, facilities and procedures in sales and service transactions:
Communicate these items to customers and employees accurately and fairly
Keep apprised of concert information and current discounts/promotions
Understand and be comfortable with offering the customer other sales opportunities that will complement the current purchase/transaction
Understand and demonstrate proficiency on computerized ticketing system.

Stage Door Attendant must be available for a minimum of 15 hours per week. Maximum scheduled hours will generally not exceed 28 hours.

Shifts will generally consist of a combination of the following but with a strong preference of being able to work business hours with occasional event hours.
Business Hours: Weekdays 8:45AM-5:15PM
Events: Varies by day / event 7AM-1:00AM
Occasional Meeting attendance

Qualifications or requirements

Education & Experience Required:
Ability to effectively communicate in English, both orally and in written form
Typing and computer proficiency skills
Prior experience with computerized ticketing preferred but not required
Previous customer service experience
Flexibility, initiative, interpersonal skills, ability to problem solve, personal integrity, discretion, ability to remain calm under pressure and ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality are required

Physical Demands and Working Conditions:
Ability to walk, sit, and stand for extended periods
Reach with hands and arms; balance, stoop, kneel, or crouch
Ability to use 2-way radio
Ability to lift up to 20 pounds

Working Conditions:
Moderate noise level
Occasional exposure to prevalent weather conditions
