This technician position is structured to support faculty and students in ongoing activities in the School of Technology, Art & Design (TAD). Responsible for safety compliance within TAD labs. Maintain a safe and orderly working environment within these various spaces. Maintain associated equipment, tools, materials, and availability of software within these various spaces. Supervise students in the safe and responsible use of listed spaces and equipment, including TAD laboratory equipment. Ability to work with diverse populations. Ability to work a flexible schedule (some nights, evenings, and weekends will be required).
Monitor compliance with safety protocol to include:
Maintain a safe, orderly, and secure working environment in the TAD labs.
Monitor use of safety equipment and personal protective devices.
Engage in safe work practices and continuing training in accordance with OSHA standards.
Ensure all students who use equipment are properly trained to do so.
Communicate with supervisors when safety policies are disregarded.
Maintain tools, equipment, and housekeeping in the TAD labs:
Woodworking/carpentry equipment and tools.
Metal working equipment and tools.
Welding equipment and tools.
Casting equipment and tools.
Paint lab equipment and tools.
Model lab equipment and tools.
CNC equipment and tools.
Computer lab spaces (acting as liaison between TAD and the Information Technology department).
Availability of software for all digital processing and printing equipment.
Maintain stock and consumables in the TAD labs:
Monitor TAD lab consumables to maintain appropriate levels of supplies.
Manage purchases (within a given budget) of supplies for TAD lab activities.
Ensure organization of all listed spaces.
Qualifications or requirements
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in a technology or design related field.
Demonstrated experience or willingness to learn the aforementioned TAD lab technology, processing equipment, and software.
Ability to supervise skilled and unskilled workers and provide work direction to others.
Knowledge of, or willingness to learn, applicable OSHA standards and/or other applicable safety guidelines or policies.
Excellent communication skills.
Demonstrated experience in troubleshooting and creative problem-solving.
Demonstrated experience or willingness to learn CAD and other complex computer software programs including, but not limited to, Adobe Suite, Autodesk Suite, Solidworks, VCarve.
Demonstrated experience in self-directed work.
Demonstrate a knowledge of and interest in diverse cultures and populations.
