Joy of Voting Info Session
You are invited to a community gathering centered around reinvigorating a culture of voting on September 6 at the East Side Freedom Library. Citizen University, in partnership with Springboard for the Arts, and with support from The Knight Foundation, is relaunching its Joy of Voting program. Piloted last year and continuing this year, the project is intended to spark civic creativity and joy around local elections in St. Paul.
For much of American history, local elections sparked raucous and celebratory activity. Street theater, open-air debates, bonfires and festivals were a part of every election season; debate was passionate and creative. But this longtime American tradition has atrophied, with the television replacing the public square while elections have lost touch with the creative and the local - and certainly the joyful. That's why we launched the Joy of Voting project - to bring back an active, participatory, and joyful 21st century culture of voting.
Please join an incredible group of local artists, activists and organizers to brainstorm, imagine, and collaborate. Following this convening, you will have an opportunity to submit proposals for funding for concrete projects to be implemented in this fall for our local elections in November.
Date: Wednesday, September 6, 5:00pm-8:00pm (food will be served)
Location: Eastside Freedom Library, 1105 Greenbrier Street, St. Paul, MN
Registration: Please RSVP by completing the form below
