This new opportunity is part of the effort to facilitate institutional cultural change towards compassion, reflexivity, interdisciplinarity, and complexity of worldviews through embodied ways of knowing. We intend to empower artists or scholars who are not currently formal members of Macalester to be participants and observers of the Macalester campus community. Please apply if you see your work as transnational, decolonial, challenging binary ways of thinking, and if your work aligns with at least one of the following areas:
Radical hospitality and belonging
Conflict resolution
Healing justice
Restorative justice
Intergenerational relationship building
Our Scholar/Artist-In-Residency will commit to being present at Macalester for 2 – 3 weeks. Activities include:
Beginning the residency with a conversation with the IGC leadership
Visiting classes that fit both course needs and scholar/artist interests
Attending 3-4 campus events (talks, lectures, community gatherings, student activities, etc.)
Participating in monthly IGC staff meeting and facilitating a group activity (dependent on scheduling)
Collaborating with the IGC leadership team to design and facilitate an embodied learning workshop for the campus community on themes related to global, transnational or decolonial processes
Concluding the residency with a reflective conversation with the IGC leadership, and a brief summary of activities and potential impact
Scholar(s)/Artist(s)-In-Residency Receive:
$5000 lump-sum stipend
Access to work space in Markim Hall for the duration of the residency
Potential travel support for non-local candidates
