Belwin Conservancy is looking for one to two ephemeral artists, or groups of artists, to create ephemeral art in collaboration with the public at Belwin’s Annual Bison Festival on May 18th, 2024. All materials used will be taken from Belwin’s surrounding prairie. Artist Call due Monday, March 11, 2024.

Welcome a herd of bison from NorthStar Bison to their summer home. This event celebrates the bison’s critical role in helping Belwin maintain and improve our restored prairie. Events scheduled for the day of the release include a 5k “Run with the Bison”, eco arts and science activities, live music, and food trucks.
SCHEDULE
10:00 am: Bison Festival opens with activities in tent and 5k “Run with the Bison”
12:00 pm: est. time for Bison Released into Bison Prairie (pause on activities in tent until release is over)
2:00 pm: end of Bison Festival
GOALS
To create ephemeral art with the public using materials found at Belwin Conservancy.
To construct and deconstruct ephemeral art on site.
To learn about materials found on the prairie, how they function, and why they are important to the survival of all species.
COMPENSATION
Each artist (or group) will be paid $350 total.
TIMELINE
February 15: Call for Artists sent out.
March 11: Artist Call due electronically to susan.haugh@belwin.org, amanda.hanlon@belwin.org subject line “EcoArts at Bison Fest”.
March 12 – 15: Artists reviewed.
March 18: Artists notified by email or phone of acceptance
April through the beginning of May 10, artists visit festival site
May 18: event 10:00 am – 2 pm, help provided for set up and take down. Table, chairs and sandwich provided.

a) Clearly outline how participating in Belwin’s EcoArt Fest connects with your work.
b) Describe your experience working with natural materials.
c) Comfort level working with the public (teaching experience a plus but not required).
