Inspire wonder through the power of art by engaging K-6 students in guided activities in Mia’s galleries.
Choose from two volunteer programs: Discovery Days or School Guides
Volunteer Qualities
Mia education volunteers enjoy engaging with children from all backgrounds. They embrace flexibility by adapting activities to grade level and student interests. We are seeking greater diversity in our volunteer programs to better reflect the demographics of the schools we serve. We want students to see themselves at the museum.
Commitment and Training
• Discovery Days volunteers must be available 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., one day a month (Tuesday–Friday), throughout the year. Volunteers commit to a four-week training program in time to begin volunteering in November.
• School Guides must be available 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., one day a week (Tuesday–Friday), from September to mid-June. Guides commit to a thirteen-week training program from October to January and to giving tours during the spring and the following school year.
Some prior experience working with youth is helpful to succeed in these roles. You do not need any prior experience in museums, art, or education. We will train you!
