CALLING ALL ARTISTS WHO HAVE AN INTELLECTUAL OR DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITY!

The United States District Court for the District of Minnesota, in collaboration with Fresh Eye Gallery, is now accepting submissions for I Am, a juried group exhibition of work created by artists with developmental disabilities living in Minnesota. This show will be on display at both the Diana E. Murphy U.S. Courthouse in Minneapolis and the Warren E. Burger Federal Building and U.S. Courthouse in St. Paul as part of the U.S. District Court’s Disability Law Program.

The I Am exhibition celebrates the diversity of the human experience. From individuals to large organizations, all of us benefit from a more inclusive, equitable world. By amplifying the voices of people with developmental disabilities, we acknowledge their expertise in their own creativity, experiences, ideas, and challenges. With this exhibition, our goal is to showcase and celebrate artists with disabilities living in Minnesota and foster education and understanding in the community as a whole.

The Court’s Disability Law Program is part of the District of Minnesota’s Public Outreach Committee’s work, and is co-sponsored by the Minnesota Governor’s Council on Developmental Disabilities, the Minnesota Chapter of the Federal Bar Association, the Minnesota Disability Bar Association, and MSS.

WHO IS ELIGIBLE TO SUBMIT
artists who have been diagnosed as having an intellectual or developmental disability.

ACCEPTED MEDIA
2D works (drawing, painting, printmaking, mixed media, photography, collage). Artists can submit up to 3 images in jpeg. Preference will given to larger works (16×20″ and larger) but smaller works will be considered. All accepted work must be framed and ready for display. It is preferred that exhibiting artwork is for sale but it is not required. The Gallery commission is 25%.

Because many important issues come before the judges of the court, we must keep partisan politics out of the art on display. If you have any questions, we are happy to offer guidance on what is appropriate and what is not.

Collaborative works will be considered if all artists involved have a developmental disability. No caregiver collaborations please.
