Artists can apply through February 1, 2024, for the 2025 cohort.
Arts/Industry artists-in-residence spend three months creating new work in the pottery or foundry in Kohler Co.’s factory in Kohler, Wisconsin. Artists receive materials, technical assistance, housing, and a stipend.
For 50 years, more than 500 artists from 25 countries have completed the Arts/Industry residency administered by the John Michael Kohler Arts Center and hosted by Kohler Co. The Arts/Industry residency offers artists the time, space, resources, and technical assistance to focus on the creation of new work inside the foundry or pottery of the Kohler Co. in Kohler, Wisconsin. Artists need not have experience with clay or metal, just an interest in how the industrial environment and processes can influence their creative practice.
Each year, up to 12 artists take advantage of the resources, technology, and materials of Kohler Co. to explore new ideas, processes, and perspectives for a three-month residency. Many artists come to the program with no experience in the material they will be working with, and are asked to come with an open mind and eagerness to learn and work. Artists-in-residence receive 24-hour access to studio space, industrial materials, use of equipment, technical assistance, photographic services, housing, round-trip transportation, and a modest weekly stipend.
