Studio 42 is now accepting applications from artists to be part of the Live Action Silent Art Auction, scheduled for Aug. 8, 2025. The event, held at The Hennepin in downtown Minneapolis, is the premier fundraising effort for Read With Me Minnesota, a 501c3 dedicated to improving literacy rates in the Twin Cities and ensuring children have access to diverse books.
This artist call is open to all visual artists located in Minnesota (ages 16+) that practice the following mediums: painting, drawing, photography, sculpture (small to medium sized), pottery, mixed-media, and fiber arts.
“We are looking for 15-20 artists to be a part of this unique and exciting event,” said Ramsey Sorrells, the LASAA board director. “Our intention is to raise money for a good cause, but also to support local artists, help them network, get exposure and hopefully sell their work.”
Artists will have their work displayed to a crowd of about 250 art enthusiasts, many of whom are there for the purpose of supporting artists with their patronage. If you’ve been nervous about showing your work, this is a great opportunity to do so in a safe, encouraging and supportive environment.
The LASAA board is dedicated to curating an event that provides not only exposure for the artists but also supports the acquisition of art in an environment that is welcoming and uncritical.
“If you’ve never purchased art before or if you’re an experienced collector, LASAA is the place you’ll want to be,” said Sorrells. “We have organized an event that is welcoming, nonjudgmental, that supports the artist community in the Twin Cities and raises money for a good cause.”
Artists will retain 90-100% of the sale price of any work sold at the event. Proceeds from ticket sales and designated items in the silent auction will go directly to Read With Me MN and will be fully tax deductible. Artists may donate work to be part of the fund raising effort, but that is not a requirement for participating in the event.
Artists are encouraged to fill out the online application by May 25. The applications will be used to determine if the board is interested in seeing more from the artists. After the deadline, selected artists will be invited to meet with the board.
