When examining skateboarding through the lens of tradition, the focus has often been on the achievements of cisgender white men, who are frequently credited with establishing the core foundations and principles.
Today, our curation team is driven by the goal of fostering niche communities within skateboarding that do not fit the traditional image typically associated with skateparks.
Our mission is to expand the traditional view of skateboarding, moving beyond the cisgender white male perspective to embrace a more inclusive and richly detailed narrative.
Rooted in the traditional ethos of DIY ’til you die and skate and destroy, we seek to celebrate non-traditional skaters—those who persist and make their presence felt, contributing to a vibrant, supportive, and expressive community.
We invite artists to reflect on what tradition means to them. How do you honor tradition? In what ways have you broken with tradition to evolve your experience?
This call for art is open August 1-31, 2024.
Guest Juror: Lillian Gallagher, Twin Cities Ripper
Juror results will be emailed by Friday, September 6, 2024, along with artist contract and next step instructions.
