The Compassion Museum, a non-profit start-up, wishes to commission the design & fabrication of an interactive pop-up art installation/ exhibit. We’re looking for an experienced, creative person who can help us design and fabricate a single, physical, interactive, installation to use at various locations across the Twin Cities, including parks, arboretums, libraries, museums & more.
The goal for this installation is to invite members of the community – a multi-generational, multicultural, multilingual audience – to explore the deeper meaning(s) of compassion, why it matters or how it helps, and how we can bring it alive in our lives. It should spark reflection and dialogue, help us connect with our deeper humanity and inspire growth and change (inspiring “a-ha” moments).
This installation/exhibit should:
• Be rooted in our mission, core values or Theory of Change (email us!)
• Invite participation or interactivity in some way
• (If possible) evoke empathy & compassion, and
• Inspire visitors to try out different elements of compassion and put their insights into action
We are particularly interested in working with individuals or teams who have experience in Universal design. However, if you have relevant experience and seek a kinder, more loving and humane world and are interested, we want to hear your idea!
Responsibilities include:
– Consulting and collaborating with TCM on design that will meet their goals/ objectives
– Providing recommendations for style & materials
– Consulting on size and scale along with universal design recommendations
– Obtaining all needed materials
– Fabricating and building the installation to design specifications required per agreement between Artist and TCM team
Qualifications/ Requirements:
– This project is perfect for an artist who loves creating participatory art, envisions creating a more compassionate society, and enjoys collaborative endeavors that test ideas through exploratory methods
– Available in September & October for building and fabrication, with exhibit ready (ideally) for an early November launch
– Able to meet with TCM team in person or via zoom or another platform
– Has previous experience designing and fabricating installations or related experience
– Applicant should have access to their own work space & power tools

– Initial concept for a pop-up public art installation/ participatory exhibit
– Initial ideas for materials, dimensions, and sketches or visuals that will help us visualize or understand your idea
– A link to your website, online portfolio or photos showcasing previous work
– Proposals due by midnight CST September 2, 2024
If selected for interview, we will schedule a meeting with our team to answer questions & learn a bit more about you and your ideas. Interested candidates may be asked for a follow-up meeting or to submit additional information and provide three references. Decisions will be made by September 19th. Ideally, this project will kick off in late September.
