The City of Urbandale Public Art Committee (UPAC) has partnered with the Urbandale American Legion and VFW for an mural project.
We are seeking an artist or artist team to create an original outdoor mural to be painted on the east exterior wall of the Urbandale American Legion Building (6805 Douglas Avenue, Urbandale.)
The American Legion building is located along Douglas Avenue, in the ‘historic’ downtown area of Urbandale, and over 17,000 vehicles pass it per day (6,241,500 annually.)
The mural should have a patriotic theme that serves as a visual symbol of unity, patriotism, and shared values within the community. It should foster a sense of belonging and pride among residents, regardless of their backgrounds or affiliations, by paying tribute to veterans and acknowledging their service. Additionally, it is intended to represent one of UPAC’s four pillars of public art in Urbandale, which is, “Art takes many forms.”
Applications open on July 8, 2024 and the application deadline is August 23, 2024. more information on the project can be found at https://www.urbandale.org/mural
Applications will be reviewed and up to three finalists will be selected to provide further information on a design. The two finalists not selected for the project will receive a $500 stipend. A $17,500 will be offered to the artist selected for the project.
