this season of programming from queer voices mn has us thinking all about craft! in our fall panel series, out in the stacks, we held a series of discussions delving into the queer home of craft, or, that queerest, truest home that we can all find within ourselves that informs our unique creative quirkiness. this queer home is a dance between our rich inner worlds, embodiment in flux, and place, community and global solidarity. the panel discussions beautifully revealed the cyclical nature of these realms: intuition, embodiment, community, earth.
queer voices mn is currently seeking literary and visual art submissions for a zine that asks folks to consider these topics in relationship to their craft; who they are communicating with in often solitary creative processes, how one’s craft interacts with the body, how this dis/embodied practice interacts with the current of community. we would like to hear from you on how the source of craft is in conversation with, or wholly intersects the source of queerness. this inquiry is rooted in an understanding of the body as a primary source for knowledge and inspiration, following the teachings of nature that highlight our inherent creativity and interdependence.
this publication will primarily feature literary works, but will also include select visual artworks that consider the same inquiry.
eligibility
any mn-based trans + queer writers and visual artists are encouraged to submit! additionally:
bipoc,
chronically sick/disabled,
under 26 or over 45 years old,
greater mn (outside of twin cities) &
previously unpublished writers highly encouraged to submit!
what we are looking for:
poetry (submit up to 3 pages, no more than one poem per page)
flash fic & nonfic (approx. 1200 words per piece, submit up to 2 pieces)
visual artworks (particularly those incorporating text, but not required)
at the intersection of:
craft (i.e. artistry; one’s particular approach, skill, process of creating)
inner worlds (i.e. dreams, ancestors, god, memories, inner child, trauma, ∞)
embodiment (i.e. how you live in the body, movement, change)
place, community, interconnectivity, global solidarity
you may submit in multiple categories, but only one time in each category. we invite you to stay true to your craft and submit either handwritten or typed (computer, typewriter) pieces. legibility will be considered at the discretion of the editor and illegible pieces may be considered as a visual artwork rather than a literary piece.
