Stages Theatre Company is looking for two young people who are blind or low vision to take part in our new play workshop for the world premiere of The Right Thing To Do: The Joe Mauer Story, adapted by Michael Mahler.
Workshops are a relaxed working environment where we bring the actors, musicians, writers and director into the room together to work through a first draft of a script before it is produced on stage. These workshops are a great opportunity to hear from young people about how the play resonates with them, what they want more of and how they are reflected in the piece. No formal audition will be necessary for the workshop. Instead, we are prioritizing having the right perspective in the room!
This workshop will be held on Saturday, May 17th from 10 AM – 4 PM and Saturday, May 18th from 1 – 4 PM at the Hopkins Center for the Arts. The first day will include a read through of the script, performing small sections of the script and learning music along with engaging in discussion about the story arch and representation. The second day will be a public reading of a new draft!
Age range of young people: Young Mike (age 10-12) and Teen Mike (13-18)
The character of Mike is based on a real person in Joe Mauer’s life and played an important role in his story. He is a lead character in the production and we will see him both as a child and teenager.
Acting experience is a plus, but not a requirement! If you have a headshot and resume, please send it our way. This is a musical, so preference will be given to those who like to sing.
