Call for Artists: Shine A Light

Lutheran Church of the Resurrection

CALL FOR ENTRY “Shine A Light”

The Lutheran Church of the Resurrection announces a call for submissions for a new exhibition, “Shine A Light.” Leonard Cohen in his 1992 song, ‘Anthem’, sings “There is a crack in everything, that’s how the light gets in”. Throughout history, the use of light and dark contrast has been used metaphorically in millions of ways. We are hoping to gather work from artists for whom light is used both as an artistic element, as well as visual metaphor. Maybe light in your work is simply the element that illuminates form, space, or reality. Is your art the light that draws you to it? Does lightness in your work reveal something else? Do you utilize value contrasts as a metaphor for something else? Does light hold an important place in your creative work and personal symbolism? This call asks artists to submit 2D work that uses light as subject matter, as well as metaphor. You are invited to submit up to 3 pieces of your work evoking light.

The Art and Exhibitions committee will consider works in all 2D mediums (Painting, Drawing, Multimedia, Collage, Photo, Digital – printed and hang-ready, Textile, Printmaking, etc.). Artists should submit digital images of no more than 3 pieces that, for you, relate to the theme of the show. A selection of submitted works will be selected and curated by the LCR Art and Exhibitions Committee.
Open to local 2D artists in the Minneapolis/St. Paul metro area – limited only by the artist’s ability to deliver and pick up their work. All accepted work must be ready to hang with appropriate hanging hardware, framing, and/or other treatment that allows for the safe installation of the artwork on a cable/hook system. We are located at 3115 Victoria St. N. in Roseville, MN.
The exhibition will run from Sunday, May 10 to Sunday, July 12, 2026.
