Springboard is a recognized leader in creative community development, creative placemaking/placekeeping, artist entrepreneurship and professional development, and artist-centered economic strategies. Springboard programs have been replicated and inspired work in over 100 communities across the U.S. and beyond. Our work exploring the role of arts in equitable community development has been featured at national and international convenings, including the Aspen Ideas Festival, Urban Land Institute, the National Rural Assembly, Americans for the Arts, International Downtown Association, and a recent Congressional briefing.Springboard’s work has also been highlighted by major media outlets such as National Public Radio, Bloomberg, The Guardian, and The New York Times.
Springboard offers a library of workshops and technical assistance support, including Work of Art: Business Skills for Artists (offered directly or train the trainer), Artists Working in Community trainings, City/Community and Agency Trainings on how to work with artists, and program design, implementation, and artist project support.
A national coalition of place-based organizations that center people, creativity, and equity working together to create a stronger ecosystem for communities and artists. Started in 2023 and incubated at Springboard, the Coalition currently has over 200 core members and 500+ individuals and allied organizations. The Coalition’s work is focused on Learning and Field Building; Storytelling and Public Narrative; Action Research; and Convening and Consulting. The Knight Foundation has engaged Springboard for the Arts, specifically leveraging their work and leadership of the Creative Change Coalition, to support the eight Knight Cities to 1) build local leadership and narratives that position artists and arts organizations as leaders; 2) develop the cross-sector partnerships that build holistic community health and vibrancy; and 3) create connections starting with the eight cities for mutual learning, model sharing and innovation. Springboard’s subscription based virtual library of high-quality, self-paced, video-based courses to help creatives thrive. Course topics include: U.S. tax basics; tools and considerations for setting up a business; and arts and economics. Subscriptions are available for purchase individually, or in bulk for institutions, including colleges, universities and fellowship programs, to share with their networks or to integrate into their programming or coursework.
