Launched in 2026 and supported by the Blandin Foundation, Heartland Heartwork: A Rural Cultural Organizers Network strengthens the impact of people already using culture and creativity to build stronger rural communities through peer exchange, shared learning, and direct investment in community-led projects. Through ongoing support and direct investments, including a connection fund, virtual learning, and peer exchange, the network helps rural cultural organizers in Minnesota turn possibilities into action and bring their communities together.
The foundational curriculum of the network is Heartland, Heartwork: A Field Guide to Place and Possibility. Published in 2024 by Springboard and featuring case studies from over 30 communities across Minnesota and original essays from rural creative leaders, the Field Guide is designed to empower rural leaders in planning and executing effective place-based projects centered in arts, culture and creativity.
