About Locally Grown Theatre
Locally Grown Theatre is a community theatre committed to enriching the East Metro area through the transformative power of the arts. Since 2012, our mission has been to:
Plant: Cultivate the inner artist in youth.
Nurture: Foster a love of theatre arts within the community.
Grow: Support artists of all ages through experimentation in multiple theatrical forms.
We produce 2 full outdoor productions a year, casting local community actors. We also have an extensive education program that has classes, camps, and productions for student actors in two school districts. Our productions, youth programs, and community partnerships serve over 2,250 individuals annually, embodying our belief that a theatre thrives because of its community.
Position Overview:
As a Board Member for Locally Grown Theatre, you will help guide the strategic vision and operational decisions of the organization. Board members play an integral role in maintaining the organization’s financial health, engaging the community, and supporting the theatre’s programs and productions.
This volunteer role is ideal for individuals passionate about theatre and community engagement who are eager to make a meaningful impact on a small, dynamic arts organization.
Responsibilities:
Leadership and Governance
Determine and uphold the mission and purposes of the organization.
Collaborate with the Artistic Director on strategic and organizational planning.
Review outcomes and metrics to evaluate the organization’s impact.
Assist in recruiting board, committee, and volunteer members and assessing board performance.
Fiduciary Oversight
Ensure strong financial management and accountability.
Review and understand financial statements.
Contribute to an annual performance evaluation of the Artistic Director.
Community Representation and Advocacy
Serve as an ambassador for Locally Grown Theatre, promoting its mission and programs.
Leverage connections, networks, and resources to enhance the organization’s reach.
Represent the theatre at community events, productions, and outreach initiatives.
Fundraising and Resource Development
Actively participate in fundraising initiatives, including securing donations and grants.
Consider Locally Grown Theatre a philanthropic priority and make annual gifts within your capacity.
Committee and Task Force Participation
Serve on committees or task forces and take on special assignments as needed.
Partner with the Artistic Director and fellow board members to ensure board resolutions are carried out effectively.
Qualifications:
This is an extraordinary opportunity for individuals passionate about theatre and community engagement. Ideal candidates will:
A passion for the performing arts and community engagement.
Willingness to dedicate time and energy to advance the mission of Locally Grown Theatre.
Have professional or volunteer experience in fields such as business, non-profit management, theatre arts, government, or philanthropy.
Possess strong interpersonal and diplomatic skills, with the ability to cultivate relationships and build consensus.
Demonstrate personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Be eager to learn and deepen their connection to Locally Grown Theatre.
Commitment:
Attend quarterly board meetings, the annual budget meeting, and other special sessions as needed (approx. 11 hours annually).
Volunteer approximately 25-30 hours annually at community events, productions, and outreach activities.
Commit to a three-year term with possible additional terms.
