The Creative Change Coalition currently offers two types of sessions:
✹ Community of Practice events, focused on big picture topics and discussions
✹ Technical Assistance Workshops, focused on discreet, action-oriented skill-building
Unless otherwise noted, all offerings are free and available publicly, though they are designed specifically for the staff of place-based organizations that center people, creativity, and equity.

Virtual, Zoom Webinar
Hosted by Springboard for the Arts’ Executive Director, Laura Zabel, this free, virtual gathering and discussion will feature special guests National Endowment for the Arts Chair Maria Rosario Jackson, PhD and Ben Stone, National Endowment for the Arts Design & Creative Placemaking Director. Connect with peers, learn more about the coalition, and hear from NEA leadership on vision and strategy for the field of equitable, place-based creative work in this free, 1.5 hour virtual session. Artist Matthew Wuorinen will capture the event as a graphic recorder.
About the Keynote Speakers
Dr. Maria Rosario Jackson
National Endowment for the Arts Chair
Maria Rosario Jackson, PhD, is the 13th chair of the National Endowment for the Arts. For more than 25 years, Jackson’s work has focused on understanding and elevating arts, culture, and design as critical elements of healthy communities. Her work blends arts-and humanities-based approaches to comprehensive community revitalization, systems change, the dynamics of race and ethnicity, and the roles of arts and culture in communities. Jackson has a long career in strategic planning, policy research, and evaluation with philanthropy, government, and nonprofit organizations. She has served as an advisor on philanthropic programs and investments at national, regional, and local foundations. Read the full bio.
Ben Stone
National Endowment for the Arts Design & Creative Placemaking Director
Ben Stone was appointed director of Design and Creative Placemaking in July 2023. In this position, he manages the NEA’s grantmaking for design and creative placemaking, and oversees the Mayors’ Institute on City Design, the Citizens’ Institute for Rural Design, and the Creative Placemaking Technical Assistance Program. Graphic Recorder, Matthew Wuorinen
Matthew Wuorinen (aka Hid) is a self-taught artist based in West Fargo, North Dakota. He is influenced by graffiti, street art, clip art, and propaganda. He is currently the art coordinator for EPIC Charities, a North Dakota nonprofit, where he plans an annual group art show, community art experience and soon-to-be art workshops. He also runs a free meetup for creatives named Draw Club which has been active in Fargo-Moorhead for over 5 years.
