CALL FOR ARTISTS

Fresh Eye Gallery invites you to take part in Eye to Eye, an exercise in community and creativity. Eye to Eye is founded on the principles of radical inclusivity, where artists with and without disabilities are brought together to build a stronger creative community. Artists are paired up in teams of two to connect, collaborate, and create new artwork.

Ten years of connection

The very first Eye to Eye was the brainchild of former Arts Supervisor from MSS, Chloe Russell. The project started under the name Co Lab in 2015 at a previous art space we ran in partnership with The Show nonprofit from 2015-2020 in the Lowertown neighborhood of St. Paul. Chloe coordinated the project through 2020 (with a virtual reception that year), with Jes Reyes taking it over for 2022 & 2023. This year the project with be coordinated by Analeise Jarvi-Beamer and Lauren Hughes, the team behind Fresh Eye Gallery.

Over the last decade the relationships artists have made through Eye to Eye have led to meaningful connection, community engagement, creative opportunities, and impactful works of art! We are so excited for this iteration of Eye to Eye.

What to expect:

Selected artists will be paired based on their work samples, their goals with the project, location, and other preferences. The pair will work to create one or two collaborative pieces of art. Artists will have between May 1st and August 1st to complete their collaborations. It’s strongly encouraged that artists meet with their partners at least 4 times during this 12-week period, either on their own, or through coordinated times organized with the gallery.

Fresh Eye Gallery is committed to ensuring access so that artists with various lived experiences can take part. Participating artists will be provided with art supplies and space to create at no cost. Other accessibility assistance can also be provided as needed. We encourage disabled, BIPOC, LGBTQIA+ and other marginalized artists to apply. The call is open to those local to Twin Cities-based area.

Please note that availability is a key part of the selection process. To maximize accessibility for participating artists with transportation support needs, we will prioritize artists who are able to meet during business hours. If you have questions about this or any other part of the selection process, please contact us at fresheyegallerympls@gmail.com.
