Competition / prize
Submit artwork that transforms ordinary, everyday objects into extraordinary artwork. Pieces may include literal trash that you picked up off the street or giving something boring an imaginative twist to create a piece of art. We are excited to see what fun things you come up with.
You’re invited to submit your artwork for our summer Call for Entry in the Jan Johansen Gallery at Rumriver Art Center. The exhibit is titled: Trash to Treasure.
The Rumriver Art Center invites regional artists to enter two- and three-dimensional work in any medium (acrylic, watercolor, drawing, mixed-media, photography, pottery, mosaic, fiber, sculpture, etc.) that fits the theme of Trash to Treasure.
Each of your submissions must not be larger than 36 in. x 36 in. for two-dimensional pieces and 36 in. x 36 in. x 36 in. for three-dimensional pieces.
There is a $10 entry fee per entry with a limit of three (3) entries. (Note: each piece of artwork is a separate entry). Whether your work is accepted or not, there will be NO REFUNDS of the entry fees. (Note: one, two, three or none of your pieces may be accepted for the gallery show).
Acceptance of artwork will be determined by a neutral third-party judge who is an artist and has an artistic background.
The deadline for entry is Thursday, May 9 at 11:59pm Central Standard Time (CST).
The exhibit will be on display in the Jan Johansen Gallery at Rumriver Art Center from June 15 through July 6, 2024.
After the show closes, we have been invited to move the Trash to Treasure show to the Northtown Library in Anoka County.
There is no minimum age requirement to participate in this exhibit.
There will be People’s Choice voting during the exhibit. The three highest voted artists will receive a ribbon.
The Rumriver Art Center reserves the right to close acceptance of entries if participation exceeds expectations.

ABOUT RUMRIVER ART CENTER
The mission of Rumriver Art Center (RRAC) is to make a difference through art by being a welcoming and inspiring environment for artists of all ages to explore their creative potential through our classes, collaborations, and partnerships in the North Metro.
The art center began in 2009 as a small 500 square foot studio and has expanded to over 5,000 square feet with the addition of an art cafe and library, a ceramic studio, a larger multi-purpose studio, and four private artist studios in a historic milk factory along the Rum River. We opened a community art gallery in the fall of 2018 for local artists to showcase their work and have been organizing a community art fair in Ramsey each summer since 2016.
We reach over 10,000 students annually of different ages, ethnicities, abilities, and economic backgrounds offering the opportunity to grow artistically and creatively while building confidence and social skills. The art center offers programs for public and private educational institutions, summer art camps for youth, art courses for homeschool families, and a Vitality Arts program for older adults ages 55+. We also offer a variety of virtual art classes, community programs, Free Family Art Days, and a Senior Art-Reach program.
