The vision of Imagine Fergus Falls is to foster community interaction about historic preservation and economic development in Fergus Falls through innovative arts programing, creative placemaking and community storytelling.
Imagine Fergus Falls is loosely modeled after Irrigate, an artist-led creative placemaking initiative spanning the six miles of the Central Corridor Light Rail line in Saint Paul during the years of its construction.
From September 2013 to September 2014, Springboard for the Arts, The Fergus Falls Economic Improvement Commission, the Otter Tail County Historical Society and PlaceBase Productions partnered to:
- Conduct a series of creative placemaking workshops for artists of all ages and career levels to learn about creative placemaking as it relates to Fergus Falls historic preservation and economic development.
- After attending a workshop and a peer review session, artists will be eligible to access funds to do a project that aligns with the goals of Imagine Fergus Falls.
- Create an original site-specific theater production on the grounds of the former Fergus Falls State Hospital based on interviews and story swaps with local residents about their connection to the building.
Imagine Fergus Falls has continued as a program that has included the Kirkbride Arts & History Weekend, creative placemaking workshops and residencies across the region, and the Hinge Arts Residency.
